You know, when you change home, frequently old, lost, forgotten things come to light magically. While he was packing his things Mr Earl Grey has found this old photo of his grandpa: Lord Philip Earl Gordon Grey. Isn't he adorable?
special thanks to Marta Pavia for the help, the photo and the beautiful mini-cup

I'm really sorry for the long absence from my beloved blog, but i've just moved into a new house and I haven't had the internet connection for a while (oh nooo), but I'm finally back and my proposition for this brand new september is: post more! (and draw more)... For now I sketched you the image of my past weeks...

a day in a Reggia
eh no! Serissimo la-vo-ro
lavoro per cosa? eheh surprise... (stay tuned)
- "I think a dog with a collar of feathers is waging is tail"
- "I note that! Coffee?"
An afternoon lost in the middle of August to the beautiful "Reggia di Venaria"
an escape from the city
a lot of Savoy and miles of beautiful gardens
a friend/writer who drinks too much coffee
the feeling of being on vacation few miles from home
people who sing in the choir "singing in the rain" in front of a spectacular fountain
What is that? Vacancy?
oh no! It's very serious WORK
Work for what? Surprise ...(and stay tuned hehe)

From sketch to picture
Voilà the coloured picture I made for my mum. This is an acrilyc on canvas about 30 x30 cm. It represents well what I'm trying to do in this period. In the past weeks I did an impegnative work and a beautiful trip to Amsterdam where I've appreciate "live" the amazing work of painters as Rembrandt and Vermeer and I thought that i could do better and more as illustrator. Obviously I'm very very far even to softly touch the greatness of that masters but I can be inspired by them and try to achieve a deepest consciousness of the techniques and try to be more free and accurate in my personal work. I think this is a first little step. And what about you and your summer challenges?

Look at me now
Hi everyone! This is a very fast sketch I made for a painting. My mum asked me to do a "real painting-on-canvas" for her and I have finally started to work on it. She absolutely doesn't like scary, ambiguos, fantasy, strange illustrations and she said that she prefer a simple portrait of a young woman. I decided to do the portrait of a very young woman and I focused on the expression of this little girl.
My final interest when I draw is always to catch the expression of a face; this time my will was to create a young girl with a fearless and timorous look at the same time. I don't know if I managed it, hope so!
when I've finished I promise to publish the final coloured canvas)

He's a pirate

photo: marta pavia/ photoshop: me! |
It's summer and Mr. Earl Grey has decided to try out new emotions and started surfing the Po, the river that runs through my city (Turin).
As always, Mr. Earl Grey likes to find deep toughts in his daily activities and this time, as wise as usually, he said: "We always have to be brave like a pirate!"
Special thanks to marta pavia
for her beautiful photo and creativity.
