cafè

Adoro i caffè, quei luoghi in cui ci si siede per fare due chiacchiere. Quei non-luoghi dove ci si ferma, durante un viaggio, per fare una pausa e assaporare il fatto che tutto è diverso. Era da un po' che volevo fare un'illustrazione ambientata in un caffè, per disegnare tutte quelle cose che mi piacciono tanto: i portatovaglioli, le tazze, le manine che tengono le tazze...Uhuu che meraviglia! E poi, mi è venuta un'altra idea, e se invece di disegnare solo il luogo raccontassi una storia (ma una storia vera eh)? Voilà.

I love cafès, those places where you sit down for a chat. Those non-places where we stop, during a trip, to pause and savor the fact that everything is different. I wanted to create an illustration set in a cafè, to draw all those things that I like so much: mugs, hands holding cups, napkins uhuuu how wonderful! Then I had another idea: what if, instead of just painting a cafè, I write a (true) story set in it? Voilà.

Privacy

Anche quest'anno ho partecipato al concorso di illustrazione organizzato da Tapirulan, il tema era molto complesso: privacy. Un tema difficile da affrontare ed è proprio per questo che ho voluto partecipare. Sul sito di Tapirulan c'è tutta la gallery delle illustrazioni che partecipano al concorso e che, se volete, potete guardare e commentare liberamente, la trovate qui. Qui sopra c'è la mia proposta: una nonnina che, all'alba, quando nessuno la vede, si concede in spiaggia un momento di goduriosa libertà. 

This year I decided to take part in the illustration contest organised by the website Tapirulan. The subject was really complex: privacy. The concept was a very hard one to deal with and this is one of the reasons that really motivated me. You can find the contest gallery here and if you want you can leave a comment. Above, my illustration: a not-very-young lady who, during the sunrise, when nobody sees her, finds a moment of joy and freedom for herself.

This must be the place

Un po' Robert Smith dei Cure, un po' Edward-mani-di-forbice, un po' vecchia zia, un po' rock 'n' roll: sono felice di presentarvi la mia personale versione di Cheyenne, il protagonista dell'ultimo film di Sorrentino "This must be the place", interpretato dal divinissimo Sean Penn. Ho visto il film ieri sera e ha colpito la mia fantasia, e il personaggio di Cheyenne è dolce, stambo e, a suo modo, luminoso. Ho voluto fissarlo su carta muovendo la testa al ritmo di questa (enjoy!)

Mr Earl Grey's Grandpa

Sapete, spesso quando si trasloca, gli oggetti vecchi, perduti e dimenticati vengono alla luce come per magia e mentre mr Earl Grey stava impacchetando le sue cose ha trovato questa vecchia foto di suo nonno  Lord Philip Earl Gordon Grey ritratto ovviamente con una tazza della sua fragrante bevanda preferita.

You know, when you change home, frequently old, lost, forgotten things come to light magically. While he was packing his things Mr Earl Grey has found this old photo of his grandpa: Lord Philip Earl Gordon Grey. Isn't he adorable?

scusate per l'assenza prolungata dal blog! Ma ho appena traslocato in una nuova casa ed ero senza la magica Rete (aiuto!); ora eccomi di nuovo qui con il grande intento di questo settembre nuovo di zecca: postare di più!(e disegnare di più) ce la farò? Vedremo... Per il momento vi lascio con una velocissima immagine delle mie ultime settimane...

I'm really sorry for the long absence from my beloved blog, but i've just moved into a new house and I haven't had the internet connection for a while (oh nooo), but I'm finally back and my proposition for this brand new september is: post more! (and draw more)... For now I sketched you the image of my past weeks...
